Privacy Policy

RouteSpinner is built by Vanya Mutafchieva and Ronan Cremin ("we", "us"). This policy describes what data is collected and why.

LOCATION DATA

RouteSpinner requests your device's GPS location to centre the map and search for running routes near you. Your location is used in two ways:

To query OpenStreetMap via Overpass API (overpass-api.de and overpass.routespinner.com), which receives a bounding box covering your search area — derived from your GPS location but rounded to the nearest map tile boundary (~5 km precision).
To request elevation data from routespinner.com, which receives the coordinates of generated route waypoints.

Your GPS coordinates are never stored on any server we control beyond the duration of the request.

ANALYTICS

RouteSpinner includes optional analytics powered by Mixpanel. You are asked for consent when you first use the app. If you consent, anonymous usage events (e.g. distances searched, routes exported) are sent to Mixpanel servers in the EU. Your GPS coordinates are included in analytics only if you grant consent. Analytics data is used solely to understand where the app works well and improve it — never for advertising, and never shared with or sold to third parties. To withdraw your consent, email vanya@routespinner.com and we will delete your Mixpanel data.

IN-APP PURCHASES

Purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We do not see or store your payment details.

ICLOUD KEY-VALUE STORAGE

RouteSpinner stores your export count and analytics consent preference in iCloud Key-Value storage so they survive app reinstalls. This data is managed by Apple and is not accessible to us.

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

Overpass API (overpass-api.de, overpass.routespinner.com) — receives a tile-level bounding box to return map data. No personal identifiers are sent.
routespinner.com — receives route waypoint coordinates to return elevation data. No personal identifiers are sent.
Mixpanel (mixpanel.com) — receives anonymous usage events if you consent to analytics. Data is stored on EU servers.

DATA RETENTION

We do not retain personal data on our own servers beyond the duration of individual API requests. Mixpanel events are retained according to Mixpanel's data retention policy.
